Written by: Engr Faisal Hayat Khan

Pakistan’s quest for progress has always demanded a leadership built on vision, sincerity, and competence. Among the few individuals who truly embody these qualities is Engineer Ahsan Iqbal, the current Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives. His contributions extend beyond Pakistan’s borders, earning recognition at both national and international forums.

Ahsan Iqbal earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, which laid the foundation for his analytical thinking, structured planning, and technical insight. He later pursued advanced studies in Public Administration and Economic Policy from the United States, a rare combination that shaped him into a leader capable of navigating both the technical and administrative landscapes with equal prowess.

Recently, a special honor was conferred upon him by a committee comprising six vice chancellors from prominent universities of the Islamic world. This award reflects global acknowledgment of his academic, administrative, and policy-making abilities, and stands as testament to his leadership in driving Pakistan toward progress and stability.

Throughout his career, Ahsan Iqbal has remained a dignified and credible figure—both within his political party and in broader public life. Even his political rivals often commend his refined language, rational discourse, and sincere service to the nation.

A firm believer in teamwork as the cornerstone of sustainable development, Ahsan Iqbal has surrounded himself with capable and professional individuals. One such key figure is Engineer Ameer Zamir, a seasoned technocrat and a Governing Body member of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). His technical acumen and collaborative approach have significantly contributed to the effective implementation of planning and development strategies under Ahsan Iqbal’s leadership.

Among Ahsan Iqbal’s most notable contributions is the launch of Vision 2025, a long-term strategy aimed at transforming Pakistan into a modern, connected, and prosperous state. The vision focused on reforms in critical sectors such as energy, education, healthcare, industry, and infrastructure.

Building upon this, he also played a pivotal role in shaping Vision 2030, aligning Pakistan’s national goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, he introduced the concept of Uraan-e-Pakistan (Flight of Pakistan) — a youth-centric initiative promoting digital skills, economic empowerment, and self-reliance among the country’s young population.

Under his supervision, the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was also successfully advanced — a project now widely regarded as the backbone of Pakistan’s economic framework.

His approach has consistently remained positive, pragmatic, and focused on national interest. He is known for his courteous speech, composed demeanor, and visionary yet practical policymaking. It is no surprise that his leadership and policies are taken seriously in global development circles and often held in high regard.

As an engineer by training, Ahsan Iqbal’s contributions are a matter of pride for Pakistan’s engineering community. His academic background, administrative experience, and patriotic vision serve as a guiding light for future generations.
