Caretaker Federal Minister Ensures Smooth and Transparent General Elections on February 8, 2024

In a recent press conference in Karachi, Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi provided reassuring clarity on the upcoming general elections in Pakistan. He categorically stated that the elections are scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024, and urged the public to have confidence in this timeline.

Minister Solangi, alongside Provincial Information Minister Ahmed Shah, expressed the caretaker regime’s unwavering commitment to facilitating free and fair elections, as mandated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He emphasized that all financial, administrative, and security requirements of the ECP would be met, ensuring a conducive environment for the democratic process.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts between the federal and provincial governments, Minister Solangi underscored the dedication to maintaining effective communication channels. He revealed that federal and provincial information ministers would work together to formulate a joint strategy for the upcoming elections, acknowledging the importance of the people’s prerogative in choosing their representatives.

Quoting the Constitution of Pakistan, Minister Solangi reiterated that the elected parliament and government are entrusted with making major decisions for the country. He affirmed the caretaker government’s commitment to preventing any deterioration in the situation leading up to the general elections, with a focus on handing over the country in an improved condition to the elected government.

Addressing the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Minister Solangi stated that conducting free and transparent elections was paramount, and the caretaker setup was extending all possible support and facilitation to ensure the success of this crucial democratic process.

Responding to a question, the minister highlighted the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar’s frequent visits to Karachi within a short span of two months, indicating a proactive approach and commitment to overseeing the electoral preparations in the region. Overall, the statements from the press conference reflect a positive and proactive stance by the caretaker government towards ensuring a smooth electoral process for the benefit of the Pakistani people.
